BURNOUT

Happy midterms!

A common misconception of art students is that our major is easy, but that is far from true! Juggling major projects in four different classes poses its challenges, especially when burn out is hitting hard.

Every semester, around this time, I start to feel worn down. It is incredibly difficult to experience burn out in art school. Our discipline requires dedication and creative thinking, even in times when you aren’t creative. I have gotten better about juggling burn out and my to do list so here are my go to’s:

  1. Taking a break! It is okay to take a step back, and a break doesn’t have to be an hour to be helpful. Even taking a 5 to 10 minute break and getting in touch with my surroundings helps.

  2. Routines! I always try to stick to my routines when I am feeling burnt out. Doing my daily routine makes me feel like I have accomplished at least one thing when I am feeling down.

  3. Practicing patience! This one has taken a lot of practice. I try to listen to my body and take breaks when I need to. I have recently found out that going to bed early and waking up early to do work in the morning helps me out!
